Some horses leave hoofprints on the ground. Others leave them on our hearts.
This past winter, we said goodbye to our beloved Tucker, who passed away at the incredible age of 40. Reaching 40 years old is a remarkable milestone for a horse, and we are so grateful that he spent his later years surrounded by love, peace, and the family he deserved.
Before Tucker found his way to the rescue farm, his life was far from easy. He had been used as a cart racing horse, a difficult beginning that no horse should have to endure. When he arrived at the farm, everything changed. He was finally given the chance to simply be a horse—to rest, to heal, and to experience kindness.
One of the greatest gifts Tucker found here was Ginger.
The two formed an inseparable bond almost immediately. They became what we lovingly called our “husband and wife” couple. It was rare to see one without the other. They spent countless days standing quietly side by side, grazing together, comforting one another, and reminding us all that friendship and love know no boundaries. Their connection was something truly special to witness.
Tucker was one of the sweetest horses we have ever known. His gentle spirit made everyone feel welcome, whether they had years of horse experience or were meeting one for the very first time. He had a calm, patient nature that made him incredible with our clients, and it didn’t take long for him to become a fan favorite. There was just something about Tucker that made people smile.
His absence has left a space that cannot be filled. The farm feels different without seeing his familiar face or watching him quietly standing beside Ginger. But while our hearts are heavy, we find comfort knowing that his legacy lives on in every person and every horse whose life he touched.
As we grieve Tucker’s passing, we are also keeping a close eye on Ginger. Horses grieve, too, and she is undoubtedly feeling the loss of her lifelong companion. We’re making sure she receives plenty of extra love, cuddles, and reassurance during this difficult time, just as Tucker would have wanted.
Thank you, Tucker, for your gentle heart, your unwavering kindness, and the joy you brought to everyone who had the privilege of knowing you. Thank you for showing us resilience, unconditional love, and the beauty of second chances.
You may be gone from our pastures, but you will never be gone from our hearts.
You will always be loved, and you will never be forgotten.
